Schoolshop are a York based Schoolwear supplier with premises in Elvington. They supply Schoolwear to around 120 primary & secondary schools throughout York and North Yorkshire, reaching as far as Richmond to the north, down the East coast and across to the Lancashire border. The primary vehicle for supply is online but they visit larger schools so parents can access products and services. They also have a retail outlet in Elvington.
In 2015 NYCC ceased providing financial support towards the cost of Year 7 uniform to families in receipt of Free School Meals and Pupil Premium. This affected many hundreds of families as the budget had originally been £50K per annum with an allocation of £75 per qualifying child. Schoolshop felt very strongly about this change and decided to introduce a voucher scheme to replace the NYCC scheme so that families at the lower end of the earnings spectrum were able to provide the uniform their child needed for starting secondary school.
The scheme started in 2016 and since that time they have supported in excess of 300 families with uniform totalling over £15,000. In 2019 they expect to provide support in the region of £7,000 supporting up to 150 families.
