What a week that was! Last Thursday we saw over 100 people from businesses across York attend our events. It all started at 9am at the Bar Convent as we partnered with Samantha Dunwell, owner of Dunwell Data Protection to deliver our latest Masterclass on the forthcoming changes to General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR). The regulations change from May 2018 and if your business holds personal data then we strongly recommend you take steps to understand the impact. The good news is we can help with that.
We will be holding one further GDPR event on 6th February 2018 so keep an eye on our events page for ticket details. We will again partner with Samantha to deliver this important event and we are grateful for her support.
As we departed the Bar Convent, attention swung to St Peter’s School, host venue of our second Stand & Deliver event, sponsored by Crombie Wilkinson Solicitors and York Data Services. The proposition is a familiar one but seeing it live in York is a rare thing indeed. Four businesses got ten minutes each to pitch to a top quality panel of investors, all in front of a live audience in the Memorial Hall at the school.
It takes some nerve to stand on stage in front of a large audience of business owners in addition to the investor panel so full credit to Aptamer Group, Bakeplan, Incremental Solutions and Intelligent Drone Engineering. All of them delivered a credible pitch and dealt with the ‘firm but fair’ investor interrogation well! We are grateful to the contribution of our panel, made up of Martin Avison (Angel Groups Yorkshire), Helen Oldham (North Invest), James Patmore (Patmore Commercial) and David Best (Enterprise Ventures) all of whom offered some great insight into the thought processes of an investor.
Have you got a great idea for your business? Stand & Deliver will return in February 2018 and we are looking for established or early stage businesses with a need to raise investment coupled with a compelling story. Please get in touch with us for an initial conversation. Some of the businesses pitching last week have been invited to attend further meetings with our investors so we look forward to some success stories to shout about in the coming weeks.
