There is plenty of evidence around the positive impact of regular exercise, physical and mental wellbeing benefits being the obvious ones. Last year we started a Make It York running club and we have seen some interesting benefits.
- Colleagues who hated the idea of running and said they would never join us have joined us and have enjoyed it.
- People have referenced in their annual appraisals how running has helped them inside and outside work in terms of improving their mental wellbing.
- Colleagues are taking part regularly in other local events, most notably the weekly parkrun on the Knavesmire.
We are happy to welcome fellow York folk along to our club. Aside from the wellbeing benefits it can also contribute to building better relationships across the city and within the business community in particular.
How can you get involved? We run twice a week, always in our lunch hours. Monday and Thursday leaving our office at 1 Museum Street at 12.10pm. If you would like to come along then you are very welcome, just wait for us outside the building and we will be sure to be out on time.
It is very much an inclusive experience. If you think you are not a runner or not quick enough then think again! It’s not about how fast you are but it is about having fun and meeting new people. Oh and getting away from your desk for an hour will have a surprising impact on how productive you are in the afternoon.
