ACM Global Labs – (FDI) USA – Business Investment

ACM Global Laboratories are set to create more than 160 new jobs in York following a £1m expansion of the US Company’s European Headquarters in the city.

Integumen (FDI) – Dublin – Business Investment

Healthtech firm Integumen which has its UK registered offices, laboratories, and R&D facilities at Sand Hutton York, has revealed plans for an £8m floatation on the London Stock Exchange.

BT (Domestic) – apprenticeship and graduate recruitment

BT is launching a major apprenticeship and graduate recruitment drive, with York to be the base for some of the new jobs.

The company revealed it was looking for 50 new apprentices to be based in York, Scarborough, Northallerton, Doncaster, Leeds and Sheffield.

CPP (Domestic) – York – Insurance

CPP has acquired Irish-based Blink Innovation for 1m euros. Blink is a digital assurance product for the travel market.

Portakbin (Domestic) – York – Business Investment

Portakabin has announced a multi-million pound IT investment connecting 7 European regions. The new system will give customers, staff and supply chain partner’s access to a single integrated information system across the company.

Optibiotix (Domestic) – York – Business Investment

Life sciences business OptiBiotix Health has entered into a manufacturing and supply agreement with a European probiotic manufacturer.

Gear4Music (Domestic) – York – Business Investment

Major growth in its European operations has helped drive a surge in sales at York-headquartered online retailer of musical instruments and music equipment, Gear4Music.

In a trading update ahead of its results for the year to 28 February 2017, Gear4Music said total sales have risen by 58 per cent to £56m.

Business news confirms that the business has been put up for sale. 170 stores nationwide.

Newby Property (Domestic) – Ripon – Residential Development

Plans for the residential redevelopment of the historic former Nestlé factory on Haxby Road in York have been lodged by property company Newby. The Cocoa Works scheme proposes a mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments over six existing floors and includes a roof-top extension.

A new 4,000 sq ft convenience store, storage for 288 bicycles and 173 external parking spaces as well as landscaped areas with feature lighting to the front and back of the building are also proposed.

TouchRight Software – (Domestic) – York – Business Investment

TouchRight Software, based at the Hiscox Business Club in York have become the first business to receive backing from Finance Yorkshire’s new £5m extension fund. The company has received a £50,000 business loan.

Aldi – (FDI) – Germany – Retail

Construction has started on a new Aldi store on Water Lane. The new 18,750 sq ft supermarket will create about 30 jobs. 15-yr lease.

Rushbond Plc – (Domestic) – Leeds – Property Investment

The landmark River House has been sold to Rushbond Plc for an undisclosed sum.

First York (Domestic) – Aberdeen – Transport

Bus operator First York has taken 3,289 sq ft of office accommodation at 20 George Hudson Street

Croque Monsieur (Domestic) – York – Food and Drink

A FLEDGLING cafe chain to launch its third branch, just over two years after the first opened its doors.

The company has signed the lease on 20 George Hudson Street, and at 1500 sq feet the third branch will be a significant expansion on the two shops already operating in York. Estimated £40,000- £50,000 investment, plus £25,000 for equipment, coming from the existing business. 10 new jobs will be created.

Midlothian Capital Partners (Domestic) – London – Business Investment

MCP have acquired York headquartered Park Leisure 2000 Ltd in a £103m deal.

Empiric Student Property (Domestic) – London- Residential Development

The freehold of the 220-bed Foss Studios accommodation scheme in York has been acquired by Empiric Student Property for £23.3m from Curlew Student Trust.

Empiric Student Property (Domestic) – London- Residential Development

Empiric Student Property has committed £9.245m to the development of a 106-bed student scheme on Percy Lane in York. Construction on the Percy’s Lane property is due to start in May 2017 with practical completion scheduled in time for the 2018/19 academic year. As a result of these transactions, the Group will own a total of 441 beds in York, some 2 per cent of the local full-time student population

Malmaison (FDI) – Singapore – Leisure

Proposals for a new 124 bed Malmaison hotel at the former Aviva Offices in York in the centre of York have been approved.

Northminster Ltd (Domestic) – York – Leisure/Residential Development

Plans are set to be lodged this month for a £25m hotel and apartments scheme close to York city centre. The 50,000 sq ft scheme, comprising 42,000 sq ft for the hotel and about 7,900 sq ft of apartments, is known as Piccadilly Riverside.

PIB Insurance (Domestic) – London – Business Investment/Acquisition

London-headquartered PIB Insurance Brokers has acquired independent York insurance broker DE Ford in a deal supported by the corporate finance team at KPMG in Leeds.

Palace Capital Plc (Domestic) – London – Residential/Office Development

Plans have been unveiled for the prospective redevelopment of Hudson House in York as a mixed-use scheme that will also include a landscaped route through from the railway station. The current 1960s brutalist property will be developed into four new modern buildings including apartments, grade-A office accommodation and other commercial space.

Sainsbury’s (Domestic) – Retail / Residential Development

Work has started transforming the former Groves Chapel in York into a Sainsbury’s store and 16 apartments.

Helping Hands Care Agency (Domestic) – Warwickshire – Home Care Services

Helping Hands Care Agency have taken 70 sqm of sales space on Front space in Acomb.

York Motor Factors (Domestic) – York – Retail

York Motor Factors have expanded into an extra 170sqm of showroom space at Layerthorpe.

Primark has opened its second York store with a new 34,400sqft store in the city centres Coppergate shopping centre, creating 221 new jobs.

Danshell Group (Domestic) York – Business Expansion

Danshell Group, a York-based independent provider supporting adults with learning disabilities and autism, is planning to further strengthen and expand its services within the UK with the backing of a £26m refinance funding from HSBC.

Italian Jewellery store has opened its first York store on the corner of Church Street and Low Petergate

Toymaster (Domestic) – Northampton – Retail

Toymaster has opened its latest toy store on Market Street in the city centre

Gear4Music (Domestic) – York – Retail/Business Investment

Online musical instrument retailer Gear4music has struck a deal to acquire the software development team behind its e-commerce platform. Under the terms of the transaction, 24 employees including Venditan’s chief technology officer Thomas Walder will transfer across to the group on 1 January 2017 for £1.5m.

HIG Capital/Yorkshire Ventures (FDI) – USA – Property Investment/Leisure

Private equity group H.I.G. Capital has completed a structured debt investment to help York Ventures in buying Aviva’s former city offices in York for a new major hotel. The sale to York Ventures will see the building at 2 Rougier Street transformed into a 124 bedroom Malmaison Hotel creating 80-90 jobs.

Mitrefinch (Domestic) – York – Business Investment

Mitrefinch, a York-based developer of human capital management software, has secured an equity investment of more than £20m from LDC to support its international expansion as part of a management buyout (MBO).

Balfour Beatty, the international infrastructure group have acquired Omnicom Engineering Rail, an innovative York Based company which specialises in the development of vehicle borne software and hardware platforms for asset survey, inspection and monitoring for use across the transportation sector to enhance effectiveness of infrastructure assets.

PJ Livsey have completed ‘The residence’ a high spec residential development of Twenty apartments at the Grade 2 listed former Terry’s factory in York.

Oakgate Plc (Domestic) – Mixed Use Development

Oakgate have released plans to develop Stonebow House in the Hungate area of the city. The upper floors will be developed into 20 residential units and there will also be about 31,500 sq ft of retail and leisure space, including shops, cafes and restaurants.

International shoe retailer Pavers has been given the green light to double the size of its headquarters in York. The scheme, which features a 3,502m2 warehouse will create 50 new jobs

Lambretta Clothing opened its first northern shop on the corner of Spuriergate and high Ousegate in the city centre.

Holland and Barret (Domestic) – Nuneaton, Warwickshire – Retail

The Health Food retailer has opened up one of its new flagship stores in York. The second Holland & Barrett ‘More’ concept store has created 10 new jobs.

Empiric Student Property has acquired land at Lawrence Street York and entered into a forward funding agreement to build 115 student bedrooms as part of an £11m investment

Optibiotix, a LSE listed York business, which develops compounds to tackle obesity, high cholesterol and diabetes has raised £1m in share Capital to further develop its products.

The world’s “leading producer of precision-cut crystal” has opened a York store on Coney Street in the City Centre.

Cellhire (Domestic) – York – Business Expansion

Cellhire has acquired a competitor in the online space as it gears up to increase its UK market share. 0044 personnel will be incorporated into Cellhire’s organisational structure and both 0044 and Dataroam will be based at Cellhire’s HQ in York.

Anaplan (FDI) – San Francisco – Business Investment

The software company, which was conceived in a York barn but now has its global headquarters in Silicon Valley, has completed a $90m (£62.56m) funding round and become a UK-founded “unicorn” as a result of its valuation in excess of $1bn.
