Abingdon Health (Domestic) – York – Bioscience Business Investment

York-headquartered Abingdon Health Ltd has announced the completion of a £1.1m funding round, which has been raised from current shareholders. The funding will be applied to working capital and will be used for the continued extension of the company’s lateral flow device product set and associated reader systems.

RotaCloud (Domestic) – York – IT and Digital Business Investment

RotaCloud have taken 2,700sqft of newly refurbished space at George Hudson Street. RotaCloud which provides rota planning software to a base of over 1,500 customers worldwide has seen staff numbers almost treble in the last 12 months.

Clarion Housing Group (Domestic) – Property investment

Latimer, part of Clarion Housing group has purchased the former Nestlé factory building in York with plans to transform the building into 258 apartments. The scheme which already has planning permission has a gross development value of £77m.

November 2017

Legal & General (|Domestic) – London – Property Investment

Funding has been secured for a new cinema and retail scheme at the Vangarde development in York. Legal & General is to fund Wrenbridge Sport and the City of York Council’s development of the Vangarde leisure scheme at Vangarde Way, Monks Cross, York. Totalling £35m, L&G’s investment, on behalf of its Leisure Fund, will build a new 13-screen IMAX 50,000 sq ft cinema which has been pre-let to Cineworld, as well as various restaurants and retail units.

Duncan Renewables/VerdEnergy (Domestic) – York – Renewable Energy Business Investment

York-headquartered biomass supplier VerdEnergy, part of Duncan Renewables, has secured £200,000 funding from Mercia Debt Finance, part of the Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund to support its future growth.

PowerOn (Domestic) – York – IT Business Investment

York-headquartered IT automation specialist PowerOn has almost doubled its turnover to more than £2m and also recruited 11 new team members during the past year.

CB Information Systems (Domestic) – York – IT Business Investment

York-based CB Information Systems has received £500,000 funding from Mercia Equity Finance, part of the Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund, to support BinaryBots, a new venture developing toy robots that teach children how to code. Over 6,000 kits have already been sold and the company has signed up resellers in Europe and North America and is in talks with a number of large UK retailers.

Bakeplan software (Domestic) York – IT and Digital Business Investment

Bakeplan has been awarded a grant of more than £40,000 to help it develop automated systems for the food industry.

 Selco (Domestic) – London – Retail

Selco Builders Warehouse are due to open a new York depot creating 50 jobs.

Brecks Company Ltd/Hydrotherm Ltd (Domestic)

Two businesses have taken space at Escrick Business Park. The Brecks Company Ltd. has taken a one year lease on a 1,660 sq ft two-storey office at Escrick Business Park. Whilst Hydrotherm Ltd has taken an initial six month lease on a 1,360sq ft suite.

Direct Wood Flooring/Connection Retail (Domestic) – County Durham

Direct Wood Flooring has opened a new store in York following a £150,000 investment. The opening of the 3,175 sq ft store, its first in Yorkshire, creates four new jobs.

J Rotherham Masonry (Domestic) – York – Business Investment

The stone masonry business is expanding its premises in Holme-on-Spalding-Moor near York with the support of a six figure funding package from HSBC. The investment will allow the firm to expand its manufacturing facility and means that J Rotherham expects to grow its revenue by 20 per cent over the next 12 months.

Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust (JRHT) (Domestic) – York – Property Investment

Property developer Wates Residential has been appointed to build a £24m extra care village development in the garden village of New Earswick on behalf of the Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust (JRHT)

Bytes Technology Group (Domestic) – Letherhead – IT Business Investment

Pocklington based Phoenix Software has been acquired by Bytes Technology Group, a Leatherhead-based major Microsoft reseller. The combined business will boast combined revenues this year of about £400m and a total staff headcount in the region of 480. 

Magnitude Software (FDI) – USA – IT Business Investment

York-based technology company, Agility Multichannel which has offices in the US and Sweden has been acquired by US-based group Magnitude Software Inc.

BHP (Domestic) – Sheffield – Financial and Professional Services

Chartered accountants BHP has expanded its presence in York with the relocation to a three storey, 4,500sq ft building at St Mary’s Court.

Filmore and Union (Domestic) – Leeds – Food and Drink Business Investment

Filmore & Union is undertaking a £100,000 makeover of its York restaurant. The Petergate restaurant opened in 2012 as the first Filmore & Union store of the now 14-strong chain and is set to re-launch in November more focused on being an evening destination.

September 2017

New World Foods (Europe) Ltd (Domestic) – York – Food and Drink/Business Investment

New World Foods will expand its capacity after receiving a seven-figure funding deal from HSBC worth £1.07m. The company plans to create up to 20 new manufacturing jobs in the coming 12 months as well as increasing its turnover by 50 per cent over the next year.

Innov8 Technology Limited (Domestic) – Stockport North West – IT and Digital/Business Investment

Innov8 Technology has acquired York headquartered Sage solutions expert, Viking Management Systems for an undisclosed sum, expanding its geographical reach from the North West into Yorkshire and the North East. Innov8 and Viking will continue to operate under their individual brand names

Krispy Kreme (Domestic) – Surrey – Retail

Krispy Crème has opened its new doughnut shop on Coney Street.

Savills York (Domestic) – York – Property

Residential and rural property services business Savills York has relocated its 48 strong team to a larger office at River House on Museum Street

Revolution Waves (Domestic) – York – Food and drink

York-based Revolution Waves has received £25,000 funding from NPIF – BEF & FFE Microfinance, part of the Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund. The loan from the Business Enterprise Fund will help create nine jobs.

Landmark York building comes to the market for £12m – Property Investment

An eight-storey 88,294 sq ft landmark building in the heart of York is being sold with approval to change it to 77 apartments. Steamrock Capital are selling Rydale House, which currently houses offices. It is located in York City Council’s designated ‘Castle Gateway’ regeneration area.

Aldi (FDI) – Germany – Grocery Retail

Aldi will open its third York store this week – with an Olympic medallist cutting the ribbon and free shopping giveaways.

Muddy Boots Nursery (Domestic) – York – Business Investment

Muddy Boots Nursery has relocated into a new purpose-built facility in York after securing a six-figure funding package from HSBC. After acquiring a £795k commercial loan from HSBC, the nursery was able to invest in building a new £1.3m site at Boroughbridge Road. As a result of moving into a new facility, the business expects to recruit eight new staff members over the next 12 months.

Axcel Group Ltd (Domestic) – London – Leisure and Toursim

Hotel 53 on York’s Piccadilly has been sold to London-based hotel management firm Axcel Group off a guide price of £13m. It will form part of the groups hotel portfolio which includes the Mercure Edinburgh Haymarket Hotel and AC Marriott Manchester.


York-headquartered modular building manufacturer Portakabin has posted turnover and profit growth in its latest set of accounts. In the 12 months to 31 December 2016, Portakabin has experienced continued growth with annualised increases in both turnover (£300.3m) and profit before tax (£38.2m).

Gear4Music (Domestic) – York – Business Investment

York-headquartered musical instrument retailer Gear4Music has bought a new head office after securing funding from HSBC. Gear4Music purchased the new 50,000 sq ft premises in Holgate Park, York, for £5.3m, part-funded by a package worth £3.7m from the bank.

Stage One (Domestic) – York – Creative and Digital

Stage One Creative Services will expand and invest in its existing home at Marston Moor Business Park in Tockwith by taking an additional 15,000 sq ft of space and signing a new 15-year lease on its existing buildings.

Hudsons at the Grand Hotel and Spa (Domestic) –

The Grand Hotel and Spa has reopened its 3 AA rosette restaurant following renovation as part of the hotels £15m refurbishment.

Sea Holding Limited (Domestic) – York – Business Investment

York-headquartered Sea Holding Limited which operates the Saville AV, Quadra Concepts and Ikure brands has built turnover and increased profits by almost 50 per cent. Turnover has increased from £40m to £42.2m for the year ending 31 December 2016, whilst profit before tax increased to more than £2.1m from £1.4m, an increase of 48.2 per cent.

QFM Group (Domestic) – Sheffield – Leisure and Tourism

Sheffield-based fast food franchise operator QFM Group has acquired a 19,000 sq ft site for a new Taco Bell restaurant at Monks Cross in York. This site will house QFM Group’s first restaurant in York and is expected to create approximately 40 new jobs.

Standard Life Investments Property Income Trust (Domestic) – London – Property Investment

Standard Life Investments Property Income Trust has sold its office building on the Heslington-based York Science Park. The business sold the 25,600 sq ft office on York Science Park for £4.35m, ahead of the June 2017 valuation figure of £4.3m.

Random Encounter – (Domestic) – York – Gaming Cafe

York’s first pop culture café reveals its city centre location. The venture, called Random Encounter, was hoping to open later in the summer after raising more than £10K with its Kickstarter campaign.

Now the duo behind Random Encounter, Ellen Stubbings and Wes Hall, have announced the location – 9 Gillygate. This is the former home to Bluebells Of York – and it is a good fit, as it is next door to video game emporium Sore Thumb Retro Games.

Barnitts (Domestic) – York – Retail

Barnitts to open new 7000 sq ft store on James Street. Plans are in to convert a warehouse on James Street into a sister store. With parking provided it will also be the place for shoppers to pick up items ordered from Colliergate via the ‘click and collect’ online service.

Five Guys burger Restaurants (FDI) – Virginia– Restaurant

The US company is currently fitting out 47 Low Petergate – formerly home to the Christmas Angels shop – ready to bring a different burger concept to the city.

FortyFive Café (Domestic) – York – Retail/Cafe

Three men on a music mission have opened York’s first vinyl café. The On Micklegate

Craft Breweries say cheers to six figure loan

The breweries, including York-based Rudgate Brewery, have received a combined funding boost of more than £132K from BEF, a social enterprise offering funding and mentoring for businesses across Yorkshire and the North East.

Crew Clothing Company (Domestic) – London – Retail

Crew clothing Company have opened a new store on Low Petergate, York.

Power Body Nutrition (Domestic) – York – Business Investment

York based sports supplement business, Power Body Nutrition, has seen a £200,000 injection from the Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund. The debt funding marks one of the first investments by the NPIF in the York area since its launch earlier in the year.

Yorwaste (Domestic) – North Yorkshire – Business Investment

Yorwaste has invested £3m in a new waste transfer station in York, with the capability of handling 75,000 tonnes of waste each year.

S Harrison (Domestic) – York – Retail/Residential Development

Work is underway at grade II-listed hunter House on Goodramgate in York. S Harrison has started work on the final phase of a mixed use residential and retail development in the city centre. The upper floors of the building, which is just 120 metres from York Minster, have already been transformed into 14 one and two bedroom apartments by the company. The final phase will create ground floor leisure and retail opportunity.

Continuum (Domestic) – York – Business Investment

Continuum Attractions, based in York, has purchased Welsh adventure park GreenWood Forest Park for an undisclosed sum. The park will be Continuum group’s first outdoor business within its nine-strong list of attractions, which predominantly features themed and heritage sites. Alongside York Chocolate Story, Continuum Attractions owns, operates and manages The Real Mary King’s Close, in Edinburgh; The Canterbury Tales, in Canterbury; Oxford Castle Unlocked, in Oxford; Emirates Spinnaker Tower, in Portsmouth; and The Emmerdale Studio Tour and Village Tour, both in Leeds, as well as operating a management contract at The Royal Mint Experience, in Cardiff.

York Test (Domestic) – York – Life Science / Business Investment

The management team at York based food testing laboratory – York Test – has completed an £8.6m MBO aided by private equity house key capital partners.

StarCompliance (FDI) – USA – IT/Digital / Business Investment

US software company StarCompliance, which has its R&D division in York and provides compliance and regulatory software solutions for the financial services industry, has received an investment from Luminate Capital Partners, a San Francisco-based private equity firm, helping to bolster its growth plans.

Animalcare (Domestic) – York – Business Investment

YORK veterinary medicine and animal healthcare group has seen an eight per cent rise in sales to almost £16 million ahead of acquiring a Belgian-based counterpart. Animalcare Group published a trading update revealing underlying operating profits, for the 12 months ending June 30, are set to increase nearly 12 per cent to £3.57 million.

Jessops (Domestic) – Marlow – Retail

Camera Specialists Jessops have returned to York after 4 years opening a new store on Coney Street, York.

Origins (Domestic) – London – Retail

Natural Beauty product brand Origins have opened a new store on Stonegate, York.

York Community Stadium Development (Domestic) – York

Work will begin on York’s £44m community stadium in October.

Oakgate group (Domestic) – Wetherby – Commercial Development

Oakgate group has proposed plans for an expanded site next to the designer outlet in York. The site would include offices business space and a 750 space carpark, supporting the creation of 2,000 new jobs.

York Cocoa House (Domestic) – York – Food and Drink

Plans for a £750,000 chocolate factory in York, which will create up to 20 new jobs across the operation, have been approved by City of York Council.

Eurofins Group (FDI) – Luxembourg – Business Investment

York EMC Services (YES), a subsidiary of the University of York, has been acquired by Luxembourg-based analytical services provider Eurofins Group. Eurofins has an international network of over 310 laboratories across 39 countries in Europe, North and South America and Asia-Pacific employing more than 28,000 staff. The acquired business will continue to be known as York EMC Services.

York Racecourse (Domestic) – York – Leisure and Tourism

Plans to invest £4m to transform the former course enclosure and clock tower surroundings at York Racecourse have been recommended for approval.

June 2017

Empiric student Property (Domestic) – London – Residential Development

Work has started on the development of a 106 bedroom student housing block in the centre of York. York-based development company S Harrison have appointed GMI Construction Group PLC on and the company has immediately started work on the £6.2m contract.

Stage One (Domestic) – York – Business Investment

Creative construction and manufacturing company Stage One has invested £1m into a next generation 3D printing business. Fluxaxis is a start-up being incubated by Stage One which will explore the potential of digital manufacturing using 3D printing, scanning and design.

Newby (Domestic) – North Yorkshire – Residential Development

Property development company Newby is aiming to transform the former Nestle factory – The Cocoa Works – into 258 apartments while maintaining its industrial heritage with minimal change to the façade. The plans will create a mix of one, two and three bedroom apartments and a new 4,000 sq ft convenience store.

The Helmsley Group (Domestic) – York – Property

York based Helmsley Group has expanded its Northampton portfolio by acquiring a town centre building. The group has bought Woodlands House in Northampton town centre for £3m. The purchase brings the group’s property portfolio to 57 buildings across the UK worth in excess of £125m.

Aldermore Group (Domestic) Peterborough – Financial and Professional Services

Listed challenger bank Aldermore Group has acquired a 48 per cent stake in AFS Group Holdings, an independent funding provider with offices in York and Blackburn.

Animalcare (Domestic) – York – Business Investment

York-based supplier of veterinary medicine and products, Animalcare, is to acquire a larger European animal health company in a reverse takeover. Animalcare Group, has entered into a conditional share purchase agreement to acquire Belgium-headquartered Ecuphar NV. The enlarged group will have combined revenues of around £84m.

Steam Rock Capital – (Domestic) – London – Mixed Use Development

One of York’s most recognisable buildings is to be regenerated into a residential mixed-use development that will retain its famous frontage. Steamrock Capital and Wetherby-based Oakgate Group have worked together on plans to redevelop the Banana Warehouse on Piccadilly. The plans will see the historic and iconic façade of Banana Warehouse retained and a new three to five-storey building constructed behind the feature, housing 49 apartments, retail units on the ground floor and parking.

Yorkshire Heart Vineyard (Domestic) – York – Business Investment

A successful vineyard and brewery based in Yorkshire has plans to create a new visitor centre to offer tours and tastings. Yorkshire Heart , a vineyard and brewery based in Nun Monkton near York, has agreed a funding deal with Barclays to finance the creation of a new visitor centre for the business

York Racecourse (Domestic) – York – Leisure and Tourism

The owner of York Racecourse has posted record turnover in its latest financial accounts. During the 12 months to 31 October 2016 York Racecourse Knavesmire, which runs the racecourse and re-invests the profits into the operation, achieved turnover of £21.3m in 2016 to set a new record, eclipsing the previous best of £20.5m achieved in 2015.

Gusto (Domestic) – Cheshire – Retail and Leisure

Italian restaurant and bar chain Gusto will open their 17th outlet on Little Stonegate in York in July. The move follows a £1m refurbishment to transform the old Mulberry Hall shop into a 120 cover venue, creating 60 jobs.

Symbiosis IP (Domestic) – Life Sciences

Symbiosis IP has taken space at the National Agri-food Innovation Campus on the outskirts of York.

FPCR (Domestic) – Derby – Evesham – Life Sciences

Environmental and integrated design company FPCR have taken space at the National Agri-food Innovation Campus on the outskirts of York.

PowerON (Domestic) – York – IT and Digital

IT solutions and consultancy business PowerON has signed a three year lease on ground floor office space at the former Time Office at York’s historic Terry’s chocolate factory to act as its Head office. Since forming just 2 years ago the company, which has offices in Surrey and Lincoln, has seen rapid growth and now employs 26 people.

Gear4Music (Domestic) – York – Business Investment / Retail 

York-headquartered online musical instrument and equipment provider Gear4Music has successfully raised £4.2m with a placing and will use the money to accelerate its growth.

The business will invest in accelerated development of its bespoke IT platform as well as in international expansion and accelerating translation and multilingual resources. It will also look into investing further in its new UK head office and developing the German and Scandinavian hubs.

Splendid Hospitality Group (Domestic) – Middlesex – Leisure and Tourism

The latest phase of the five star hotel’s £15m expansion has been unveiled. The 130-cover restaurant will become part of a £15m expansion project which will also see the addition of 101 bedrooms when a new accommodation wing opens later this year. Set to open June, ‘The Rise’ is the latest venture from The Grand Hotel & Spa, York, offering a twist on British favourites from Chef Craig Atchinson.

Gear4Music (Domestic) – York – Business Investment / Retail

Online retailer gear4Music has had a record year, and is expanding with a £5.3m HQ acquisition on the back of it. Revenues reached £56.1m for the York-based business in the year to February 2017, up 58% on the year before. The company made pre-tax profits of £2.3m, compared to a loss of £43,000 in 2016.

CPP (Domestic) – York – Insurance

Credit card insurance business CPP is selling its York HQ to Gear4Music for £5.3m. The deal, was revealed after Gear4Music announced it would be expanding its base in York.

Tailor Made Media – (Domestic) – York – Digital/Creative

Two months after moving to York Science Park and securing a place on the Springboard programme digital marketing agency Tailor Made Media has outgrown its first office and is preparing to move to bigger premises. The 7 strong team will move into a 12 person space ready for rapid growth and further recruitment.

Herbet Todd & Son (Domestic) – York – Retail (electrical goods)

Herbet Todd & Son has moved into new purpose built premises in York to allow further growth. The new building in Monks Cross offers 10,000sq ft of showroom and warehouse space.

City Cruises (Domestic) – London – Leisure and Tourism

City Cruises has acquired York Boat in a £2.5m deal. The business will run under the City Cruises York banner.

Lawrence Luxury Apart Hotel (Domestic) – York – Leisure and Tourism

Lawrence Luxury Apart Hotel is investing £2.8m in a new city centre building. The former office building on tanner row, off Micklegate is set to be converted into 13 one-bedroom apartments covering 7,500 sq ft over three floors.

Savills (Domestic) – Property

The team of 47 at Savills York is set to occupy the former Grand Central headquarters in River House, Museum Street. The move follows the merger of Savills and Smiths Gore in June 2015, and will see the teams relocate from existing premises in Merchantgate and Bootham.

CAPITA (Domestic) – Leisure and Toursim

Capita has made moves to expand its operations in the travel and events market with the acquisition of a York-based event logistics firm. NYS Corporate, based at York Science Park, will form part of Capita’s Travel and Events division. The firm will retain its brand identity and continue to operate with its team of 62 staff.

BHP (Domestic) – Sheffield – Business Investment / FPS

BHP, one of Yorkshire’s largest independent firms of chartered accountants, is to join forces with family-run Atkinsons Consulting Limited. The move marks further expansion into York for Sheffield-headquartered BHP after it acquired Barron and Barron in 2013, taking on their offices in Micklegate.

Cosy Club have opened up a new restaurant/bar on Fossgate.

Ness clothing opened a new store on Stonegate in York

Capita (Domestic) – Business Investment / Leisure and Tourism

Professional services company Capita has acquired York based NYS Corporate, which specialise in business travel and events logistics for large businesses including 02, the NHS and Siemens.

Covance (FDI) – USA – Life Sciences

Covance (a subsidiary of Laboratory Corporation of America), one of the world’s leaders in drug development, is expanding its presence in the UK by establishing a purpose-built laboratory at the National Food and Agri Innovation Campus (NAFIC) on the edge of York on a 10-year lease

Saville Audio Visual (Domestic) – York – Business Investment / Digital Creative

The management of Saville Audio Visual have acquired the £41m turnover business.

Paragon Entertainment (Domestic) – York – Leisure and Tourism

Paragon Entertainment, which designs and builds attractions for brands such as toy store chain Hamleys and the Titanic Belfast, has reported annual results featuring a surge in revenues. In the year to 31 December 2016, group revenue rose by 70 per cent to £14.4m while EBIDTA climbed from £240,000 to £1.2m.

Rollits (Domestic) – Hull – Business Investment / FPS

Law firm Rollits has acquired a building at Monks Cross in York to relocate its North Yorkshire offices. Forsyth House, a 6,000 sq ft building, has been sold by Flanagan James Property Consultants on behalf of undisclosed private investors.

Chafer (Yara UK – owned) – (Domestic) – Grimsby – Business Investment / Bioscience

Plant product manufacturer Chafer has invested £1m in its liquid fertiliser site in Elvington, increasing its handling and storage facilities.

Cairn Group (Domestic) – Newcastle – Leisure and Tourism

Cairn Group is set to reopen Grade 2 listed York Bar as Jalou after a £1.1m investment. The brand will launch for the first time outside Newcastle, creating 30 jobs in the city.

Pavers Shoes (Domestic) – York  – Retail

York-based retailer Pavers has acquired four Brantano shoe stores from administrators PwC. The four stores, in Lincoln, Bournemouth, Newton Abbot and Newport on the Isle of Wight have been acquired for an undisclosed sum.

Hunters Estate Agency – (Domestic) – York – Business Investment / Property

York based estate agency Hunters have posted impressive results as it enters its 25th year. Revenues were up 15% to £13.8m with pre-tax profits of £987,000 up from £880,000.

March 2017

ACM Global Labs – (FDI) USA – Business Investment / Bioscience

ACM Global Laboratories are set to create more than 160 new jobs in York following a £1m expansion of the US Company’s European Headquarters in the city.

Integumen (FDI) – Dublin – Business Investment / Bioscience

Healthtech firm Integumen which has its UK registered offices, laboratories, and R&D facilities at Sand Hutton York, has revealed plans for an £8m floatation on the London Stock Exchange.

BT (Domestic) – apprenticeship and graduate recruitment / IT

BT is launching a major apprenticeship and graduate recruitment drive, with York to be the base for some of the new jobs.

The company revealed it was looking for 50 new apprentices to be based in York, Scarborough, Northallerton, Doncaster, Leeds and Sheffield.

CPP (Domestic) – York – Insurance

CPP has acquired Irish-based Blink Innovation for 1m euros. Blink is a digital assurance product for the travel market.

Portakbin (Domestic) – York – Business Investment

Portakabin has announced a multi-million pound IT investment connecting 7 European regions. The new system will give customers, staff and supply chain partner’s access to a single integrated information system across the company.

Optibiotix (Domestic) – York – Business Investment / Bioscience

Life sciences business OptiBiotix Health has entered into a manufacturing and supply agreement with a European probiotic manufacturer.

Gear4Music (Domestic) – York – Business Investment / Retail

Major growth in its European operations has helped drive a surge in sales at York-headquartered online retailer of musical instruments and music equipment, Gear4Music.

In a trading update ahead of its results for the year to 28 February 2017, Gear4Music said total sales have risen by 58 per cent to £56m.

Plans for the residential redevelopment of the historic former Nestlé factory on Haxby Road in York have been lodged by property company Newby. The Cocoa Works scheme proposes a mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments over six existing floors and includes a roof-top extension.

A new 4,000 sq ft convenience store, storage for 288 bicycles and 173 external parking spaces as well as landscaped areas with feature lighting to the front and back of the building are also proposed.

Aldi – (FDI) – Germany – Retail

Construction has started on a new Aldi store on Water Lane. The new 18,750 sq ft supermarket will create about 30 jobs. 15-yr lease.

The landmark River House has been sold to Rushbond Plc for an undisclosed sum.

Bus operator First York has taken 3,289 sq ft of office accommodation at 20 George Hudson Street

A FLEDGLING cafe chain to launch its third branch, just over two years after the first opened its doors.

The company has signed the lease on 20 George Hudson Street, and at 1500 sq feet the third branch will be a significant expansion on the two shops already operating in York. Estimated £40,000- £50,000 investment, plus £25,000 for equipment, coming from the existing business. 10 new jobs will be created.

The freehold of the 220-bed Foss Studios accommodation scheme in York has been acquired by Empiric Student Property for £23.3m from Curlew Student Trust.

Empiric Student Property has committed £9.245m to the development of a 106-bed student scheme on Percy Lane in York. Construction on the Percy’s Lane property is due to start in May 2017 with practical completion scheduled in time for the 2018/19 academic year. As a result of these transactions, the Group will own a total of 441 beds in York, some 2 per cent of the local full-time student population
