Make It York is the Destination Management organisation for the city. Our purpose is to develop and promote York as a great place to live, visit, work, study and do business. Our business support team are here to encourage start ups and help local businesses to grow .

Our key aim is to ensure that businesses can get the help they need, when they need it. We offer a comprehensive information and signposting service and can help put businesses in direct contact with appropriate support providers across the city and further afield. This includes start up and growth advice, training and recruitment support, access to finance, property search, international trade and business innovation. We are also committed to attracting new businesses to the city and offer a tailored inward investment support service for those looking to locate in York.

Andrew Sharp

Head of Business

Andrew is Head of Business at Make It York and leads teams responsible for Inward Investment, providing start up and business growth support to the city’s business community, and promoting the city as a business conference and events destination.

Charles Storr

Business Growth Manager

Charles leads on Make It York’s key account management, supporting the needs of the city’s medium and large businesses. He also has a focus on developing the Food and Drink and Rail sectors in the city.

Simon Middleton

Business Growth Manager

Simon leads our business support services team, providing a wide range of business support information and advice to start ups and companies looking to grow. With 20 years experience in the financial services sector Simon specialises in helping businesses to access the finance they need to grow.

Mark Bates

Business Growth Executive

Mark has a wealth of business support expertise and is responsible for supporting SME’s to obtain the information and advice they need to grow. Mark specialises in helping businesses get access to staff training and development and funding to help employers meet the cost.

Business Development Executive - Start Up and small business

As part of the business support services team Chris is responsible for supporting start up and small businesses, helping them to access the information and advice they need to grow.

Christine Hogan

Business Development Executive - Inward Investment

Christine leads on attracting Inward Investment to the city. Christine works closely with businesses from initial point of enquiry right through to soft landing and aftercare. Working with companies to support their decision making, through the provision of a comprehensive range of services including market intelligence, advice on setting up your business, finding the right property and more.
